Dinan Cold Air Intake – BMW 230i / 330i (B48)

OVERVIEW

Built to appeal to as many buyers as possible at an attractive price, the 230i and 330i arrive with a utilitarian air box, a basic panel filter and an intake resonator that mutes the turbo and induction noise enthusiasts want to hear. The Dinan carbon fiber intake replaces that system with a semi-open design flowing 58% more air than stock, improving throttle response, removing a potential restriction for owners planning a higher-output build, and adding a more aggressive carbon fiber appearance with a clear increase in induction sound once the resonator is deleted.

Dinan reworked and enlarged the entire lower box to house a 40% larger free-flowing filter, adding a secondary inlet whose shape, size and location were extensively tested so the extra volume would not raise turbo inlet temperatures. Dinan notes the extra flow yields no meaningful power gain on a stock or lightly modified car — instead it raises the platform's power ceiling so the intake isn't a limiting factor on a more aggressive build, while making turbo spool and the blow-off event audible and giving the engine bay a substantially improved carbon fiber look.
