Active Autowerke Catted Downpipe – BMW M5 / M8 (F90) / X5M / X6M

OVERVIEW

For over 30 years Active Autowerke has been the name to turn to for high quality BMW performance products, and these S63TU downpipes are the newest addition to the F90 M5 collection. They are engineered to virtually eliminate the immensely restrictive character of the factory downpipes, reducing radiant heat and turbo lag while significantly increasing horsepower and torque throughout the powerband. Each set is manufactured in house, meticulously TIG welded and checked for perfect fitment, and accepts the OEM O2 sensor heat shield so the engine bay keeps its stock, sleeper look. The GESI catalytic converters will not produce a CEL, greatly reducing emissions through proprietary precious metal loading technology while the reduced back-pressure lets the engine make its power.

Additional Parts Required

• None. Active Autowerke specifies no additional hardware for this part — the lower mid-pipe section is included and the OEM O2 sensor heat shield is retained.

Installation

• Active Autowerke catalytic converter break-in instructions (PDF) — follow this procedure on first start-up to avoid a check engine light being set in error.

Notes

• Please Note: These catalytic converters are not legal for use on vehicles registered in the state of California as a result of California Vehicle Code Section 27156 and 38391.
• NOTE: Federal law prohibits the tampering of an emissions control device. Mobile Source Enforcement Memorandum 1A allows for aftermarket parts to be used in the repair or replacement of emissions control systems, provided the emissions are not adversely affected. There is no mention or reference to cell density or converter volume dimension. The GESI catalytic converter will produce emissions that will meet the standards set by the EPA, not CARB.
