AMS Performance BMW M340i B58 Heat Exchanger

OVERVIEW

The M340i's B58 cools its intake charge through an air-to-water intercooler system, which works on a stock car but heat-soaks quickly under hard driving, track use or hot weather. The AMS Performance heat exchanger fixes that with a 54% larger dual-pass core and 122% more coolant capacity than the factory unit (nearly half a gallon more in the system), keeping intake temperatures lower and power more consistent.

The dual-pass core sends coolant through twice before exiting, and AMS's 5mm louvered fins gave the best heat transfer of every fin design they tested. CNC-machined billet 6061-T6 end tanks lock into the factory mounts and connect to the factory coolant lines.

TECH RESOURCES

Additional Parts Required

• Cooling-system vacuum filler with a BMW adapter. Per the AMS install guide, standard filling procedures will not work for this application. Contact Speed Logic if you need help sourcing one.
• Bracket modification. Per AMS, the transmission cooler mounting brackets must be slightly modified to clear the wider AMS heat exchanger (shown on the Supra in the guide; AMS notes the M340i is similar).

• AMS Performance has not completed CARB/EPA compliance testing for this part. Not legal for emissions-controlled vehicles in California without a completed AMS race waiver.
