Dinan Cold Air Intake – BMW M240i / 340i / 440i (2015-2020)

OVERVIEW

Following the N55 intake that made Dinan’s reputation on the six-cylinder platform, the B58 carbon fiber cold air intake takes the same route to more power: a larger airbox and filter element that improve throttle response and reduce the strain on the turbocharger. As with every Dinan intake, the box is fully sealed so the engine draws as much cold outside air as possible rather than heat off the engine bay.

The intake tube received the bulk of the engineering attention. The factory tube carries internal baffling and a small Helmholtz chamber to suppress intake noise, and both create turbulence that costs power. Dinan developed a carbon fiber tube through several iterations that removes those restrictions and lets the intake tract breathe — and sound — freely. On an otherwise stock car the finished system is worth 15 HP and 13 lb-ft at 6000 RPM.

Unlike earlier six-cylinder Dinan intakes that mixed materials, the B58 system is carbon fiber throughout, and the grade of material and its coating were improved over previous generations so the engine bay still looks right years later.
