OVERVIEW
The Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake for the F90 M5 is a fully sealed induction system built almost entirely from gloss UV coated 2x2 carbon fiber. It stretches from one side of the engine compartment to the other by way of a functional secondary air inlet wishbone, which both deflects underhood heat and acts as the conduit for a second air source fed by a central hood scoop located behind the front grilles.
That extra air supplements the factory inlet locations on the left and right air boxes with ambient air from outside the engine bay. The air boxes themselves are enlarged and fitted with much larger filters to handle the increased volume, so the system flows as efficiently as possible while staying completely sealed off from hot engine compartment air.
The stock intake is adequate for stage 1 power levels, but the Dinan system still improves on it by reducing the pressure depression present in the factory system. The turbochargers work less to reach the same target power, which means lower pre-turbine backpressure, lower turbocharger shaft speeds, lower compressor discharge temperatures, and headroom for higher boost pressure. Throttle response improves, the intake note picks up slightly, and the effect is amplified further when the system is paired with Dinan's carbon fiber turbo inlets.
