OVERVIEW
The Evolution Racewerks Competition Series Front Mount Intercooler was developed over more than a year of testing on a stable of test cars in different racing conditions, and is designed specifically to fit — and look right on — the BMW M135i, M235i and M2. The core measures 20" x 11" x 3", or 26" x 11" x 3" including the end tanks, and uses Evolution Racewerks' high density bar and plate construction in place of the factory tube and fin core.
Fin density is where the core does its work. The fins are the main heat transfer surface, so more fins per square inch means more real surface area. Most quality cores run 12 to 14 fins per square inch and inexpensive overseas cores run 8 to 10, while Evolution Racewerks cores run 18 to 20 fins per square inch. The result is 660 cubic inches of high density bar and plate core against the factory's 425 cubic inches of less efficient tube and fin, a 35% increase in core volume.
Cast end tanks improve durability and internal flow, and the intercooler uses factory style connectors so it works with the factory charge piping or aftermarket piping that uses factory style connectors, including the Evolution Racewerks charge pipe upgrade. All factory components are retained, no modification is required, and the kit is 100% bolt on. Every Evolution Racewerks FMIC is pressure tested to 50 PSI before it ships.
