HKSTUDIE Exhaust System – BMW M2 G87 6MT

OVERVIEW

HKSTUDIE is the BMW-only brand created by HKS and Studie AG, Japan's best-known BMW specialist. The HKSTUDIE exhaust for the G87 M2 is a full stainless system built and welded in-house at HKS in Japan, developed specifically for the 6-speed manual car.

Like the M3/M4 system, it deletes the factory middle muffler and runs a straight, unrestricted pipe layout into a free-flowing main muffler. On the M2 that cuts exhaust resistance by up to 40 percent compared with stock, which HKS measured as up to 5 kW more power and up to 35 Nm more torque on an otherwise stock car, with sharper boost response low in the rev range.

The M2's shorter exhaust path makes it naturally louder than an M3 or M4, so HKSTUDIE designed a silencer specific to this car to keep the drone-prone frequencies under control at a highway cruise while emphasizing the 200–600 Hz range at full throttle. The quad tips pay homage to the BMW 3.0 CSL: thick-walled slash-cut tips with a blasted satin finish and sound-deadening inner slits.

TECH RESOURCES

• Required extras: none. This is a complete cat-back system that bolts to the factory catalyst section.
• Pairs with: the HKSTUDIE Coilover Suspension with Canceller. If the car is lowered, check clearance at the #2 mid pipe (137 mm minimum).
• Installation: professional installation recommended. The car is raised and supported, the factory system is unbolted behind the catalysts, and the HKSTUDIE system is hung on the OEM rubber mounts, aligned at the tips and torqued.
• Fitment: M2 G87 with the 6-speed manual only. HKSTUDIE does not list this system for the 8-speed automatic.
• Emissions and noise: no CARB EO is published for this exhaust — off-road / competition use only in California.
