OVERVIEW
The KW Variant 4 was developed exclusively for supercars, sports cars and performance-oriented sedans. Depending on the vehicle design the coilover struts are made from stainless steel or aluminum, and the triple-adjustable high-performance dampers bring leading race technology to a road car: rebound, low-speed compression and high-speed compression are each adjusted independently of one another.
That third axis of adjustment is what separates the Variant 4 from a conventional two-way coilover. Splitting compression into low-speed and high-speed ranges lets you control body movement and steering response without also dictating how the car deals with curbs, expansion joints and sharp-edged bumps — so the platform can be tightened up for driving dynamics while the car stays usable every day.

TECH RESOURCES
Additional Parts Required
- Four-wheel alignment — a full four-wheel alignment is mandatory after installation and after any subsequent ride-height change.
- Professional installation — KW specifies fitment by a qualified suspension shop; installation at a KW specialist dealer is also what qualifies the kit for KW's extended warranty coverage.
- Tire-to-strut and fender clearance check — verify clearance at full lock and full compression, particularly with aftermarket wheel and tire packages.
- Ride-height sensor handling — cars fitted with headlight-leveling or adaptive-damper ride-height sensors require the sensor links to be relocated or adapted to the new ride height per KW's instructions.
- Driver-assistance recalibration — camera- and radar-based driver-assistance systems must be recalibrated after the vehicle is lowered.
- Installer-supplied tools: spring compressor, torque wrench, and the standard BMW suspension service tools.
