Mishimoto N55 Oil Catch Can MMBCC-N55-11CBE2 – BMW 135i / 335i / 335i xDrive (N55)

OVERVIEW

The Mishimoto BMW N55 Baffled Oil Catch Can is designed to reduce carbon build-up, a common issue on direct-injected N55 engines. The kit uses the proven engineering of Mishimoto's patent-pending 2-Port Compact Baffled Oil Catch Can, combining a 50-micron bronze filter with an internal baffle to separate oil from the crankcase vapors. A CNC-machined lid carries large inlet and outlet ports sized to match the inner diameter of the CCV hose, and the can mounts in line with the PCV system.

By trapping blow-by before it reaches the intake tract, the catch can defends the intercooler, intake system and VANOS system from oil contamination and helps maintain proper octane levels to reduce potential detonation. The kit ships with two direct-fit hoses that require no modification to the engine cover and one application-specific mounting bracket that places the can in an easily serviceable location. Two aluminum 3/4" barb fittings connect the hoses to the can.

Mishimoto catch cans differ from most air-oil separator systems: they are not heated, so all of the blow-by — including low-octane oil vapors and contaminated fuel vapors — is able to condense in the can. Most AOS systems drain that blow-by back into the oil pan, whereas this catch can traps it and keeps it out of the engine permanently. The can and filter are fully serviceable, and the kit carries the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.

Additional Parts Required

• None. Mishimoto specifies no additional hardware for this catch can — the bracket, hoses and fittings supplied in the kit are all application-specific.
• Ongoing service item: the can must be emptied and the bronze filter cleaned at regular intervals. Both are fully serviceable and no consumable replacement parts are required.
