OVERVIEW

The Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Can Kit is a direct-fit crankcase ventilation upgrade for the 2015–2020 BMW F8X M3 and M4. The S55 brought factory turbocharging to the compact M cars, and with it the long-standing tradition of blow-by. Left unchecked, oil vapor carried through the CCV system coats the charge air path and the intake valves and lowers the effective octane of the incoming charge.

The kit mounts a single can in line with the CCV system, where a 50-micron bronze filter, an internal baffle and an air diverter separate oil from the crankcase vapor. A CNC-machined lid carries inlet and outlet ports sized to match the inner diameter of the factory CCV hose, so flow is not restricted. Two direct-fit pre-molded hoses require no modification to the engine cover, and a billet aluminum bracket mounts the can in an easily serviceable position. Installation takes under 30 minutes.

Mishimoto's catch cans differ from most air-oil separator systems in two ways: they are not heated, so low-octane oil vapor and contaminated fuel vapor condense in the can rather than passing through, and they trap the blow-by permanently instead of draining it back into the oil pan. The can and filter are fully serviceable and the kit carries the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.
