Spec Twin Disc Puck Clutch Kit – BMW N54 (E8x / E9x)

OVERVIEW

The SPEC Super Twin is a twin disc clutch and flywheel package for street and track use in cars with extreme horsepower and torque — SPEC rates this family from 650 to 1200 ft-lbs of torque depending on trim. It offers near-stock drivability, long life expectancy, a no-shimming bolt-in installation and maintenance-free operation.

With all-billet construction the units are smooth and quiet. They are constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum and high-carbon billet steel milled to an industry-leading .001 in. tolerance for perfect balance and actuation, and friction is provided by dampened, full-faced carbon-graphite discs. The assemblies are rebuildable by SPEC or by the end user, and replacement components or rebuild services are always available. SPEC lists street, drag, drift, road racing, time attack, pulling and rally use.

TECH RESOURCES

Additional Parts Required

• None. The flywheel and track-spec hardware are supplied in the kit, so no separate flywheel purchase is needed.
• Installer-supplied: transmission jack, new flywheel-to-crank bolts and BMW-specification transmission oil if the transmission is drained.
• SPEC states the Super Twin is a no-shimming, bolt-in installation with maintenance-free operation.

Installation

• SPEC does not publish a downloadable installation PDF for this application — follow the printed installation and break-in instructions supplied with the kit.
• Installation requires removal of the transmission and should be carried out by a qualified technician. Inspect the pilot bearing bore, clutch fork, release-bearing guide sleeve and slave cylinder while the transmission is out.
• Bed the clutch in with light, gradual engagements before applying full load.
