Eventuri Carbon Intake – BMW Z4 (G29, B48)

OVERVIEW

The Eventuri Z4 B48 intake has been developed to give the turbo a less restrictive flow path while maintaining low inlet temperatures. Heat and volume are the main considerations when designing an intake for a turbocharged engine. In the Z4 the intake system sits next to the exhaust manifold, which rapidly heat soaks the engine bay. High temperatures are detrimental to performance because the turbo has to build boost with heated, less dense air, so the only way to keep IATs to a minimum is a fully sealed intake.

Sealing the system leaves only one factory air feed to draw from, which creates a restriction. During development Eventuri identified an additional opening into the wheel well area and took advantage of it with a secondary feed into the airbox. The sealed airbox also carries a heat shield with a gold reflective layer to minimize radiative heat transfer from the exhaust manifold, and the airbox itself was made as large as possible, with a recess to clear potential strut braces.

The stock convoluted intake tube is replaced with a smooth carbon tube of greater internal volume that tapers down to match the turbo inlet, providing an uninterrupted path from the filter. A custom made high flow dry filter, ISO tested for filtration performance, offers a larger filtration area than the stock element.
