CSF Race-Spec Oil Cooler – BMW N55 (F-Chassis)

OVERVIEW

CSF #8145 is the world's first and only true plug-and-play upgraded engine oil cooler for the BMW N55 in the F-Chassis. Rather than simply thickening the factory cooler, CSF built an innovative two-core in-series system: the primary cooler is joined by a secondary backside cooler carrying an additional five rows, together delivering roughly a 40% increase in heat rejection over the OEM unit.

The cores use CSF's AC condenser technology — a 1-row, super-high-pressure 26mm multi-channel microtube — wrapped in a high-density multi-louvered fin for maximum surface area contact. CSF converted the system to a single-pass design with a high-pressure return line for optimal flow. The cooler has been track tested and proven by Hittman Racing's M235iR endurance race car.

It installs as a drop-in with no modifications, accepting all attaching OEM components including the oil-line connections, mounting brackets and shroud/ducting.

Additional Parts Required

• Approximately ½ quart of additional BMW-spec engine oil. CSF documents this as a genuine prerequisite: the larger cooler raises system capacity from the OEM 7 quarts to roughly 7.5 quarts, so plan for the extra oil at fill-up. Speed Logic does not currently stock engine oil — source a BMW-approved grade for your engine.
• Beyond the extra oil, CSF specifies no additional hardware. The cooler is a direct fit that reuses the OEM oil lines, brackets and ducting.
• Installer-supplied: a drain pan and a replacement oil filter if the oil is being changed at the same time.

Installation

• CSF does not publish a downloadable installation PDF for this cooler. Printed installation instructions are packed in the box.
• Installation is a direct swap of the factory oil cooler using the OEM mounting points and oil-line connections; no cutting, drilling or line re-routing is required.
• Check and top up the oil level after the first heat cycle — the additional core volume will take up more oil than the drain-and-fill quantity suggests.
