OVERVIEW

The H&R Street Performance Coil Over is H&R's height-adjustable kit for the daily-driven E82/E88 1 Series. Ride height is set on the car through fully threaded shock bodies and spring seats, so the stance can be fine-tuned corner by corner rather than being fixed by the spring.

The kit pairs H&R progressive-rate springs with mono-tube gas shocks custom-valved to those springs, which is what keeps a lowered car composed instead of harsh. On the 128i and 135i the usable range is roughly 1.2–2.0 inches at the front and 1.0–2.0 inches at the rear; the 135is already sits lower from the factory and has a much narrower window.

H&R builds every spring in-house in Germany. The wire is a special 54SiCr6 spring steel, cold-wound and then shot-peened to increase service life by more than 200%, so the spring resists settling and sagging over time. Each spring is 100% tested before it leaves H&R's ISO 9001-certified plant, and the range carries TÜV approval.

TECH RESOURCES

Additional Parts Required

  • Four-wheel alignment. H&R requires the alignment to be checked and reset after installation, and again after any later ride-height change.
  • Professional installation. H&R states its springs and suspensions should be installed by professional suspension mechanics only.
  • Spanner / C-wrenches for the threaded bodies and locking collars, to set and lock ride height. Installer-supplied.
  • Bump-stop trimming. Check the trim chart in the H&R Technical Information Sheet linked below for this kit number before assembly.
  • Confirm your car is not fitted with EDC / adaptive dampers. H&R does not list this kit for EDC-equipped cars.
  • Optional: replace worn strut mounts and dust boots while the struts are out.

Installation

  • H&R Technical Information Sheet (PDF) — ride-height measurement procedure, spring orientation and markings, bump-stop trim chart by kit number, and post-installation alignment requirements.
  • H&R technical FAQ and installation guidance (hrsprings.com) — manufacturer installation questions and answers.
  • H&R does not publish a vehicle-specific printed installation manual for this kit; installation follows the factory BMW suspension service procedure. Contact Speed Logic if you need help sourcing the procedure.

Notes

  • Lowering figures are H&R approximations and vary with the car's options, wheel and tire package and starting ride height. Fitment for a specific coupe (E82) or convertible (E88) build should be confirmed with Speed Logic before ordering.
