OVERVIEW
Water/methanol injection for forced induction gas engines is a proven means of reducing engine inlet air temperatures and suppressing harmful detonation, allowing racers to reliably increase boost and advance ignition timing without using high-octane racing fuel. AEM's V3 kit is the boost-dependent version: its Standard Controller carries an on-board manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor with a molded-in nipple for a boost hose pickup, and is rated for forced induction vehicles running up to 35 PSI of boost. AEM also offers a Multi Input controller (kit PN 30-3350) for high compression naturally aspirated vehicles and for ultra-high boost applications above 35 PSI using an external MAP sensor.
The V3 controller design uses large, turn-resistant knobs and larger numbering so start and full activation points can be set accurately, with a covered status LED and test button for added splash resistance. A plug is integrated into the controller housing to mate with the redesigned wiring harness's positive-lock connector, and the housing carries an integrated fuse, molded mounting tabs and a wiring legend on the back. The controllers retain AEM's "Boost Safe" injection failsafe, an output that activates on a short, loss of continuity, high or low voltage, or a low fluid condition, letting the user define a failsafe strategy from flashing a warning light through to pulling boost or ignition or switching fuel maps on a standalone ECU.
The wiring harness is terminated with a positive-lock connector and uses color-coded wires. An integrated pump ground circuit simplifies wiring and eliminates any chance of the pump accidentally activating from a short in the system, and an additional wire is provided for an optional on/off solenoid to stop fluid flow when the system is inactive. AEM revamped the controller's flow control strategy for a more linear flow output so delivery better matches the engine's need for water/methanol injection, further optimizing charge air cooling and detonation control, and a more accurate conductive low fluid level sensor is integrated into the tank with a positive-lock connector.

Additional Parts Required
- Water/methanol injection fluid — not supplied with the kit. A water/methanol mixture must be added to the tank before use; see the AEM instructions below for the approved mixtures and safety handling.
- A boost source — the Standard Controller is boost dependent and must be plumbed to a manifold pressure source via the molded-in nipple.
- Installer-supplied: a drill and tap to fit the injector bung into the intake tract, hand tools, wire crimping and stripping tools, and a switched 12V ignition source.
- Recommended: a calibrated engine tune once the system is installed, so boost and timing can safely take advantage of the charge cooling.
