CSF Top-Mount Dual-Pass Charge-Air Cooler – BMW S55 (F8x)

OVERVIEW

This is the world’s first cast end tank top mount charge-air-cooler designed for the BMW S55 engine in the F80 M3, F82/F83 M4 and F87 M2 Competition. Multiple air dividers are cast into both the hot and cold side end tanks to optimize air flow through CSF’s custom-designed liquid-to-air intercooler core, with CFD analysis and testing carried out to confirm the result.

The core itself is 60% larger than the OEM cooler and runs a left/right, cross-flow, dual-pass configuration with two-stage water cooling for maximum efficiency and intake temperature reduction — a significant change from the OEM single-pass, vertical-flow design. CSF used 3D scanning and rapid prototype technology to guarantee precise fitment and maximum surface area utilization.

Installation is genuinely plug-and-play: the unit is a drop-in fit complete with OEM-style quick-connect water connections and sensor ports. It is available in a professional crinkle black powder-coated finish (CSF #8082) or raw aluminum (CSF #8082R) if you want to have it custom powder-coated.
