OVERVIEW
The Dinan Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake is a fully sealed induction system for BMW's 4.4L twin-turbo V8 SUVs, covering the F95 X5 M and F96 X6 M, the G09 XM and the S68-powered X5, X6 and X7 M60i. Gloss UV-coated carbon fiber runs from the front of the engine bay to the rear, and its centerpiece is a functional secondary air inlet that doubles as a carbon engine cover.
That secondary inlet is fed by a central scoop behind the front grilles, adding outside air to the factory inlet on each side. Enlarged, fully sealed air boxes with much larger filters handle the extra volume. Dinan's stated benefit is a smaller pressure drop ahead of the turbos, so they work less to hit target boost: lower pre-turbine backpressure, lower shaft speeds, cooler compressor discharge and more headroom, plus sharper throttle response and more induction sound at full load.
SPECS
- Airflow: 630 CFM per bank versus 575 CFM stock at 30 in H2O — about 10% more than stock (Dinan flow-bench data)
- Secondary inlet: 86% more inlet cross-sectional area via the center scoop
- Air boxes: 56% larger than stock, fully sealed
- Filter area: 82 in² per side versus 51 in² stock — a 46% increase
- Construction: gloss UV-coated carbon fiber
- Install: bolt-on; Dinan's published labor time is 2 hours
- Emissions: Dinan states this part is legal under EPA's Tampering Policy dated November 23, 2020 (emission code 7). NOT LEGAL FOR SALE OR USE IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA; CARB testing is pending and no E.O. number has been issued.

Installation
- Dinan D760-0056 Cold Air Intake installation instructions (PDF)
- Dinan F95 X5M Cold Air Intake – Featurette (Dinan Cars, YouTube)
- In brief: the engine cover and cowl panels come off, the air-duct radiator cap is trimmed 16.25 in wide to accept the Dinan front inlet, the factory airbox lids and outlet tubes are removed, and the Dinan boxes, bellows and snorkel are installed. Cover the turbo inlets while the airboxes are out.
Notes
- Installation requires a permanent cut to the factory air-duct radiator cap.
- Price is for the part only; labor is not included.
