Eventuri Black Carbon Intake System – BMW F-Chassis (B58)

OVERVIEW

The B58 Eventuri intake system is another example of the “complete system” principle. It balances unrestricted airflow through an open filter housing against low intake air temperatures achieved by cold air saturation from the scoop and shield combination. Every detail has been developed in depth, from the prepreg carbon pieces to the double layer heat shields.

The system uses a patent-pending carbon fiber housing that provides an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbo. It is not another cone filter with a heat shield but a design that invokes the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow to reduce drag on the turbo. The filter housing comprises a high flow filter, aluminum cowl, laser cut bracket, carbon heat shroud and the carbon pod itself, which extends to incorporate the MAF sensor and turbo tube. The pod shrouds the reverse-mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down into the integrated MAF intake tube; that smooth reduction in cross-sectional area accelerates the air while keeping it laminar, effectively acting as a large velocity stack. Housing and inlet tube are molded as one continuous piece, reducing the number of internal interfaces, with the tube transitioning from the diameter required at the MAF sensor up to the larger turbo inlet diameter.

Considerable attention was paid to heat shielding because the intake sits next to the exhaust manifold. Eventuri used a double layer main shield, silver on the exhaust side to reflect radiant heat and black on the intake side to absorb it, with the air gap between the two layers acting as an insulator against conductive heat transfer.
