Evolution Racewerks Sport Series Catted Downpipe – BMW M340i (G20, B58)

OVERVIEW

Evolution Racewerks' Sports Series Metallic High Flow Catted Downpipe is designed for the B58 six-cylinder turbo engine, covering the 240i, 340i, 440i and 540i as well as the X3, X4 and X5 M40i models. It replaces the restrictive factory downpipe with a 200 cell metallic catalytic converter and mandrel bent 4.5" to 4" piping that transitions smoothly into the rest of the exhaust.

The result is a higher maximum horsepower curve and a torque curve that hits faster, climbs higher and holds longer, with better throttle response and quicker turbo spool. The downpipe is built entirely from stainless steel, 100% TIG welded, and made in the USA, with a precision CNC machined turbocharger V-band flange. It works with the factory exhaust system or an aftermarket one.

Ceramic thermal coating is offered as an option. Its purpose is to keep heat from the exhaust gases inside the downpipe rather than radiating out, which lowers underhood temperatures and reduces heat absorption by nearby parts. Retaining that energy also keeps exhaust flow velocities up, lowering backpressure, and the coating adds corrosion resistance. ER's thermal coating resists up to 2000°F and is available in black only, because no other color survives that temperature.

Installation

• Evolution Racewerks does not publish a downloadable installation guide for this downpipe. It bolts to the factory turbocharger V-band flange and reconnects to the factory or aftermarket exhaust using the supplied hardware.
