KW V3 Coilover Kit with Electronic Dampers – BMW Z4 M40i (G29)

OVERVIEW

The KW Variant 3 "inox-line" coilover kit is KW's benchmark street-and-track coilover, built around a stainless steel twin-tube damper whose rebound and compression damping are adjusted independently of one another. KW's engineers set a sporty but harmonious baseline on the company's 7-post rig and validated it with road, highway and Nürburgring Nordschleife testing, so the kit works out of the box and then lets you tune from there.

Compression damping is adjusted by hand at the lower end of the stainless housing through a patented adjuster — twelve exact clicks that let you influence body roll without changing spring rate, and no tools are needed. Rebound is adjusted at the top of the piston rod through an integrated adjustment wheel or the supplied twist-adjustment tool, in sixteen precise clicks. Raising rebound force reduces body movement and adds stability through high-speed corners; backing it off increases comfort.

Because the strut housings are stainless steel they do not rust, and the dirt-resistant KW trapezoidal thread with its composite collar keeps the continuous height adjustment working years after installation. KW backs the Variant 3 with up to a five-year warranty when the kit is installed by a KW specialist dealer. This particular kit is the version for cars fitted with factory electronic dampers.

• Correct damper configuration — this kit is the version for Z4 M40i models fitted with factory electronic dampers. Confirm your car's damper configuration before ordering; the non-electronic-damper car takes a different KW kit.
• Four-wheel alignment — a full four-wheel alignment is mandatory after installation and after any subsequent ride-height change.
• Professional installation — KW specifies fitment by a qualified suspension shop; installation at a KW specialist dealer is also what qualifies the kit for KW's extended warranty coverage.
• Tire-to-strut and fender clearance check — verify clearance at full lock and full compression, particularly with aftermarket wheel and tire packages.
• Ride-height sensor handling — cars fitted with headlight-leveling or adaptive-damper ride-height sensors require the sensor links to be relocated or adapted to the new ride height per KW's instructions.
• Driver-assistance recalibration — camera- and radar-based driver-assistance systems must be recalibrated after the vehicle is lowered.
• Installer-supplied tools: spring compressor, torque wrench, and the standard BMW suspension service tools.
