OVERVIEW
On the G87 M2, G80 M3 and G82 / G83 M4, BMW mounted the oil cooler flat on the underside of the nose, parallel to the road. The factory guard is flexible plastic, which leaves the cooler exposed to speed bumps, debris, steep driveways and hard contact on track.
Mishimoto's skid plate replaces that plastic with a direct-fit metal plate, offered in two materials. The black version is high-strength 5052 aluminum in a corrosion-resistant black powder coat. The titanium version uses a material with 78% higher tensile strength than aluminum, so it deforms far less when it takes a hit.
Both keep the oil cooler breathing. Vented cross-cuts let air through while blocking debris, and the retained air diffuser preserves the pressure differential that drives air through the core. Recessed hardware leaves a smooth face, so obstacles slide past instead of catching and shearing bolts. Either plate fits the factory oil cooler and the Mishimoto G8X performance oil cooler, installs in under an hour with no drilling or cutting, and carries the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty.
