OVERVIEW
The SPEC Stage 2 PLUS clutch kit uses a multi-friction disc in a full-faced configuration, carbon semi-metallic on one side and Kevlar on the other. Bridging the gap between Stage 2 and Stage 3, the 2+ keeps the drivability and engagement quality of the Stage 2 but carries 15–20% more torque capacity. The hub is double sprung with spring cover relieves for flexibility and the components are heat treated for strength and durability. SPEC recommends it for street, drag, autocross, road racing, pulling, rally and drift use.
This is the non-SAC version, built to run on a single mass flywheel. It is not compatible with the OEM dual mass flywheel. SPEC notes that a single mass flywheel is generally only needed on cars making in excess of 500 WHP / 500 lb-ft.

TECH RESOURCES
Additional Parts Required
- SPEC single mass flywheel — REQUIRED. Choose by production date: SPEC 8-bolt steel SMFW SB53S-2 (2007 – 1/2009), SPEC 8-bolt aluminum SMFW SB53A-2 (2007 – 1/2009), SPEC 6-bolt steel SMFW SB53S-3 (2/2009 on), SPEC 6-bolt aluminum SMFW SB53A-3 (2/2009 on) or, for the 2011–2012 N55 6-bolt, SPEC steel SMFW SB55S-2.
- Pilot bearing, release bearing and alignment tool are included in the kit.
- Installer-supplied: transmission jack, new flywheel-to-crank bolts and BMW-specification transmission oil if the transmission is drained.
- When switching to a single mass flywheel some flywheel chatter or rattle is to be expected.
Installation
- SPEC does not publish a downloadable installation PDF for this application — follow the printed installation and break-in instructions supplied with the kit.
- Installation requires removal of the transmission and should be carried out by a qualified technician. Inspect the pilot bearing bore, clutch fork, release-bearing guide sleeve and slave cylinder while the transmission is out.
- Bed the clutch in with light, gradual engagements before applying full load.
Notes
- Flywheel bolt pattern changes with production date — 8-bolt through 1/2009 and 6-bolt from 2/2009. Confirm your production date with Speed Logic before ordering.
- The N55 and F-chassis options on this listing (2011–2012 N55, F30 / F32 2013+, F22 M235i) pair the SB55S-2 flywheel with this kit. SPEC publishes SB55S-2 against its N55 clutch line and pairs it with the SB553H-2 kit rather than with SB533H-2 — contact Speed Logic to confirm the right combination for an N55 or F-chassis car before ordering.
