OVERVIEW

The 3.0 litre S55B30 turbo engine in the BMW M3 and M4 uses an indirect charge-air cooling circuit, so the charge air is cooled by a water-cooled intercooler. This WagnerTuning high-performance unit replaces that intercooler.

The kit uses a new tube-fin competition core developed specifically for the demands of the M3 and M4, offering 114% more external core volume than the stock intercooler. The calculated ratio between inner and outer cooling surface generates maximum heat transfer while preserving the best possible internal air flow. The cast aluminium end tanks were designed in CAD and optimised through CFD simulation, giving excellent cooling with minimal back pressure — which is why the kit suits racing use as well as fast road driving.

All WagnerTuning radiators carry a heat-conductive anti-corrosion coating to ensure a lasting cooling effect. Installation is plug and play and straightforward, and instructions are included in the box.

Required Extras

• None. Wagner Tuning specifies no additional hardware — the kit is a 1:1 plug-and-play replacement for the OEM water-cooled intercooler.
• M2 Competition (F87) only: Wagner's instructions call for a minor adjustment inside the hood, made with a body saw, to clear the intake manifold area.
• The cooling system must be refilled to BMW's specification after installation.
• Wagner quotes an installation time of roughly 12 work units (about 60 minutes).
