Burger Motorsports JB4 Tuner – BMW 320i / 330i / 430i / X1 / X2 (B38/B46/B48)

OVERVIEW

The small-displacement BMW engines respond better to a JB4 than most people expect. The JB4 works through the engine's sensor network and CANbus instead of flashing the DME, so the factory ECU stays completely stock, the install takes about 20 minutes with hand tools, and the whole thing is fully reversible. It is not VIN-locked, so it moves with you to the next car.

Two chassis options are offered. The F-chassis and early G30/G11/X1/X2 cars (2014–2019) take the Gen1 unit, which is also available in a CARB-approved version for California cars that have to pass a visual inspection. The newer G-chassis cars (G20/G22/G42) and the 2019+ Z4 take the Gen2 unit.

Additional Parts Required

• 91 octane or higher pump gas for the performance maps; an ethanol blend for the E-blend maps. Match the fuel to the map you select.
• A smartphone (iOS or Android) running the free JB4 Mobile app for wireless map switching, live gauges, datalogging and firmware updates.
• The correct chassis option selected at checkout — Gen1 and Gen2 units are not interchangeable, and the CARB-approved unit is a separate Gen1 option.
• Beyond that, none. Burger Motorsports specifies no additional hardware for a standard JB4 install on these engines.

• Burger Motorsports does not publish an official part number for this tuner, so no part number is listed. Running a B58 instead? Use the B58 Gen1 & Gen2 JB4 or the Gen3 B48/B58 JB4. If you would rather flash the ECU, we also carry the bootmod3 tune for the B46/B48.
