OVERVIEW

HKSTUDIE is the BMW-only brand created by HKS and Studie AG, Japan's best-known BMW specialist. The G8X M cars ship with electronically adjustable dampers that are stable at speed but still stiff on real roads, even in Comfort. The HKSTUDIE SUS was developed to keep that high-speed composure while giving the car a genuinely better ride around town.

It uses monotube dampers with large-diameter pistons for consistent damping, and inverted front struts to resist the bending loads a strut sees under braking, acceleration and cornering. Both ends have fully threaded bodies, so ride height is set without changing spring preload or damper stroke. HKSTUDIE set the default with the front slightly lower than the rear to close up the big factory front wheel gap and improve stability at speed. Thirty clicks of damping adjustment cover everything from commuting to track days.

HKS's Dual PVS valving firms up damping at low piston speeds and softens it at high speeds, cutting float and harshness and improving traction. A long, soft "advanced" bump rubber acts as a progressive helper rather than a hard stop. The front uses camber-adjustable spherical-bearing top hats and the rear CNC-machined aluminum top hats. The suspension error canceller is included, so removing the factory electronic dampers does not leave a warning light. One part number covers the M3, M3 Touring, M4 and M2, in RWD and xDrive.

TECH RESOURCES

• Required extras: none. The suspension error canceller is included in the kit, so there is no separate canceller to buy.
• Required after install: a full four-wheel alignment. If the car is lowered significantly, have the ADAS camera and radar calibration checked.
• Pairs with: the HKSTUDIE Exhaust for M3 / M4 Competition or the HKSTUDIE Exhaust for M2 G87 6MT.
• Installation: professional installation recommended. Corner-by-corner strut and damper replacement on a lift; the adaptive damper connectors are unplugged and the supplied canceller fitted in their place. Ride height is set on the threaded body before final torque, then the car is aligned.
• Spring options: HKSTUDIE can change the front spring rate (8k or 6k) at no charge when the kit is ordered. Ask us before you order if you want a different front rate.
