SPL Rear Traction Links / Lower Trailing Arms – BMW E8X / E9X / F2X / F3X & 1M

OVERVIEW

Two different SPL Parts rear lower arms for two generations of BMW. The F2X / F3X Rear Traction Links (SPL RTR F3X) are TITANIUM Series length-adjustable links that increase stability and response by eliminating bushing deflection under hard acceleration and braking, help reduce wheel hop on hard launches, and let rear bumpsteer and anti-squat be fine tuned. Gun drilled 2024 aluminum center links, clamps and clevises, blue anodized titanium socket head cap screws and SPL's 360-degree rotating clamp system mean a single 3/16" allen key locks the setting; Connecticut-made FK rod ends with a chemically bonded PTFE liner give quiet, bind-free articulation.

The E8X / E9X Rear Lower Trailing Arms (SPL RTR E9X) are billet 6061-T6 aluminum replacements for the stamped steel factory arms, which bend under hard acceleration and braking; that flex, combined with OEM bushing deflection, causes rear bumpsteer. The billet arm is a fixed-length, direct-fit piece that retains the OEM bushings, weighs 0.75 lb per side (35% lighter than stock) and has no NVH penalty — rigidity and lower unsprung mass with factory-like manners.

TECH RESOURCES

Additional Parts Required

• Four-wheel alignment after installation — mandatory. Rear toe and thrust angle change when the rear lower arm is replaced.
• Professional installation is recommended; these are safety-critical suspension components.
• Corner weighting is recommended for track use.
• F2X / F3X: a 3/16" allen key is required to lock the rotating clamps; the installer supplies this.
• F2X / F3X: to set rear toe independently of the traction links, pair them with adjustable rear toe links: SPL Rear Toe Links – BMW E8X / E9X / F2X / F3X & 1M; the matching knuckle-side spherical bushing is the SPL Rear Traction Arm Knuckle Bushing (SPL RKB F3X).

Notes

• SPL RTR E9X replaces BMW 33 32 2 406 291 / 33 32 6 763 477.

• F2X / F3X: Spherical bearings transmit more road noise and vibration into the cabin than the rubber bushings they replace. This is normal for this type of part.
