OVERVIEW
Hipermax R is the top of HKS's coilover range, built on what HKS learned in the years since MAX IV SP. It is aimed at GR Supra owners who drive hard on track but still have to live with the car on the street, and it is tuned to bring out more sport-driving performance than the factory electronically controlled dampers by matching the Supra's stiff body to high-grip tires.
The front uses HKS's inverted strut, which keeps usable stroke when the car is lowered and resists the bending loads a strut sees under braking and cornering. The rear separates the damper and spring. Both ends run spherical-bearing upper mounts, 30 clicks of damping adjustment and height-adjustable lower brackets, so ride height is set independently of spring preload. Hipermax R exclusives include HKS's SRF (Super Response Fluid) damper oil, LVS (Low Vibration Spring) springs and a dedicated upper spring retainer that keeps the damper axis and spring load line aligned. Spring rates are considerably stiffer than Hipermax S.
Hipermax R replaces the factory dampers. On cars with the factory electronically controlled (adaptive) dampers it needs the HKS Suspension Error Canceler, which is not included in this kit.

TECH RESOURCES
- Required extra (cars with factory adaptive dampers): HKS Suspension Error Canceler 45012-AT001, sold separately. Without it the car shows a suspension fault in the cluster and center display once the factory dampers are unplugged. Not needed on 2.0 cars with conventional dampers (DB82).
- Required after install: a full four-wheel alignment.
- Installation manual (HKS): 80310-AT003 Hipermax R installation manual (PDF)
- Installation notes: professional installation recommended. Corner-by-corner damper replacement on a lift; set ride height at the lower brackets before final torque, then align the car.
- Optional: pair with the HKS Carbon Brace for the full HKS chassis package.
- ADAS: HKS warns that Toyota Safety Sense radar and camera aim can be affected when the car is lowered. Have the calibration checked after install.
- Price is for the item only; labor is not included.
