Precision Raceworks N55 Ignition Kit – BMW 135i / 335i / 435i / M2 / M235i (N55)

OVERVIEW

The Precision Raceworks N55 Ignition Kit replaces the factory coil-on-plug setup on BMW N55 engines with a high-voltage, high-current remote coil system. The coils use technology borrowed from marine and aerospace applications and connect through 100 percent plug-and-play OEM-style weatherproof quick connects and low-resistance 50 ohm/ft proprietary plug wires.

No tune is needed to run the kit. With supporting software from most major flash and tuning companies, coil output can be raised to 118 mJ. Full DME control of the coils and the factory coil control strategy are retained, and every component is sealed against dust and water to meet or exceed OEM requirements.

Choose the mounting that matches your build: OEM manifold, where the coils mount to the direct-injection fuel rail, or aftermarket manifold, where the coils mount to the port-injection fuel rail tabs on a Black Market Parts (BMP), BMS or Phoenix intake manifold. Both mountings are offered in blue or black.

• Aftermarket manifold kit (601-0149-1 blue / 601-0150-1 black): six remote coils with aftermarket manifold mounting, 50 ohm/ft plug wires and plug-and-play coil power harness

Required Extras

• Aftermarket manifold kit only: an aftermarket intake manifold is required - the aftermarket version will not fit the stock manifold. See our Black Market Parts N55 Performance Intake Manifold.
• OEM manifold kit only: no additional parts are required; the factory airbox and a manifold post may need to be removed (see Notes).
• Recommended at the same time: a fresh set of correctly gapped spark plugs - see our NGK 97506 Laser Iridium Spark Plug Set (N55 6-pack). The Precision Raceworks-branded NGK plug (101-0158) is sold separately (not stocked by Speed Logic).
• Software tuning is optional. No tune is required to run the kit; a supporting tune from a major flash or tuning company is what raises coil output to 118 mJ.

Installation

• Installation instructions are supplied with the kit; Precision Raceworks does not publish a public install guide for this part.
• Professional installation is recommended. Speed Logic can install this kit for you - contact us to schedule.

Notes

• F10 (5 Series) and E9x (3 Series) N55 chassis cannot fit both the ignition kit and an aftermarket manifold, because the inlet runs across the back of the engine. Owners of those cars should contact us before ordering the aftermarket manifold kit.
• Aftermarket manifold kit: intended for a Black Market Parts manifold. It is not compatible with the OEM airbox, or any airbox mounted in the same location as the coils, and a manifold mounting peg may need to be removed.
• OEM manifold kit: on cars with the airbox mounted to the intake manifold, the factory airbox and a post on the manifold may need to be removed to fit the coils to the direct-injection fuel rail.
• There is no stock-location option for the N55 kit - only OEM manifold and aftermarket manifold.
• N54 cars take a different kit - see our Precision Raceworks N54 Ignition Kit.
