Precision Raceworks Ignition Kit – BMW N54 (E8x / E9x / E60 / E71 / E89)

OVERVIEW

The Precision Raceworks N54 High Performance Ignition Kit is a complete coil and plug-wire system for every BMW running the N54 twin-turbo inline-six. It is built around a high-voltage, high-current coil design borrowed from marine and aerospace applications, wired with 100% plug-and-play OEM-style weatherproof quick-connect harnessing and low-resistance 50 ohm/ft proprietary plug wires.

No tune is required to run the kit. With supporting software from most major flash and tuning companies, coil output can be raised to 118 mJ. Full DME control of the ignition coils and the factory cooled control strategy are retained, and every component uses dust- and water-resistant seals that meet or exceed OEM requirements.

Choose the mounting location that suits your build: the stock location directly above the spark plugs, the OEM manifold (coils mount to the direct-injection fuel rail), or an aftermarket intake manifold. The result is an N54 that stops eating coils, stops chasing misfires, and picks up sharper throttle response and a smoother idle.

TECH RESOURCES

Required Extras

• Aftermarket manifold configuration only: an aftermarket N54 intake manifold with port-injection fuel rail mounting tabs is required — this configuration will not fit the stock manifold. Speed Logic stocks the Black Market Parts (BMP) N54 Performance Intake Manifold; minor modification to the manifold may be required.
• OEM manifold configuration only: the factory airbox and the post on the manifold must be removed to fit the coils to the direct-injection fuel rail.
• Stock location configuration only: the foam must be removed from the underside of the engine cover.
• Recommended at install: a fresh set of correctly gapped spark plugs. NGK 97506 Laser Iridium Spark Plug Set (set of 6) — two heat ranges colder for the N54.
• No tune is required. Supporting software from a major flash or tuning company is optional and is what raises coil output to 118 mJ.
• Replacement N54 plug wires, replacement coil power harness and single replacement coils are sold separately (not stocked by Speed Logic).

Notes

• Both the coil location and the colour change the vendor part number, but not the price — all six configurations cost the same.
• N55 cars take a different kit with only two mounting options: Precision Raceworks N55 Ignition Kit.
• Precision Raceworks also lists 2011–2017 535i fitment for this kit; the F10 535i left the factory with the N55 engine, so it is excluded from the table below. Confirm your engine code before ordering against an F10 — contact Speed Logic if unsure.
