MHD FlexFuel Kit (Open Wire) – BMW Manual Transmission & E-Series N54 / N55

OVERVIEW

The MHD FlexFuel Kit – Open Wire is the version of MHD's FlexFuel kit for every BMW with a manual transmission (F and G series with the B48, B58, N55, S55 or S58 engine) and for all N54 and E-series N55 cars, manual or automatic. It enables the FlexFuel feature on MHD and EcuTek tuned cars.

A CAN Ethanol Content Analyzer (ECA) reads the signal from the E85 sensor, converts it to CAN format and sends it to the engine computer (DME). The FlexFuel feature then adjusts the tune on the fly to the ethanol content in the tank. Without the correct tune for the blend in the tank the engine will not run correctly and can be damaged.

Unlike the plug-and-play automatic kits, this version connects with a 3-wire harness and Posi-Tap connectors, so it works on cars where the plug-and-play harness does not fit. The fuel side uses Precision Raceworks PR360 plug-and-play fittings.

Additional Parts Required

• An MHD or EcuTek tune with the FlexFuel option enabled. The kit supplies the ethanol reading; the tune does the work. Speed Logic stocks the MHD Super License for N54, N55 E-Series, N55 F-Series, S55, B58, Toyota Supra B58 and S58.
• N54: MHD sells FlexFuel for the N54 as a separate MHD license; contact Speed Logic to confirm what your N54 needs.
• MHD Universal WIFI Adapter or another supported MHD interface, needed to flash the FlexFuel-enabled map to the car.
• E85 or an ethanol blend at the pump.
• Basic hand tools and a safe way to relieve fuel system pressure, supplied by the installer.

Installation

Notes

• For any manual-transmission F or G series car, and for all N54 and E-series N55 cars.
• Check every fuel fitting is fully locked: after installing, pull hard on each one. A fitting that is not locked will slide off under fuel pressure.
• Automatic F-series cars should use the plug-and-play MHD FlexFuel Kit (Automatic) – F-Series.
• Automatic G-series cars and the automatic GR Supra should use the plug-and-play MHD FlexFuel Kit (Automatic) – G-Series / Supra.
• Requires an MHD or EcuTek tune with FlexFuel enabled.
